هدفت الدراسة إلى التعرف على دور الإعلام الجديد في تشکيل الوعي المجتمعي نحو قضايا مکافحة الإرهاب وتأثيرها على الأمن القومي ومدى إدراک المجتمع وخاصة الشباب وطلاب الجامعات لأهم المخاطر التي تهدد الأمن القومي ، من خلال تناول الدراسة لعدة موضوعات وکانت أهمها ظاهرة الإعلام الجديد (النشأة والتطور والآليات) ثم دور الإعلام الجديد في تحقيق الأمن القومي ثم سبل الحماية ومواجهة الإرهاب الإلکتروني.
وخلصت الدراسة إلى ارتفاع نسبة اعتماد المجتمع الآن وخاصة الشباب منهم على الفضائيات المصرية الخاصة کأهم مصادر للمعلومات حول قضايا الإرهاب وخاصة الإرهاب الإلکتروني وتأثيرها على الأمن القومي.
 
The study aimed to identify the role of the new media in shaping societal awareness about issues of combating terrorism and its impact on national security and the extent to which society, especially young people and university students, realize the most important risks that threaten national security, by addressing the study of several topics, the most important of which was the phenomenon of new media (emergence, development and mechanisms) Then the role of the new media in achieving national security, then means of protection and confronting electronic terrorism.
The study concluded that society's dependence is now high, especially young people, on private Egyptian satellite channels as the most important sources of information on terrorism issues, especially electronic terrorism and its impact on national security.
