إن الإرهاب ظاهرة قديمة منذ وجود الإنسان، وهى ظاهرة ينشغل بها الرأى العام كلما تفاقم خطر جماعات العنف المتطرفة و المسلحة التى تهدد السلام و الاستقرار فى عدة مناطق من العالم، وكل ذلك يفرض ضرورة الوعى بخطورة الإرهاب كظاهرة، ووضعها فى سياقها التاريخى الذى أنتجها. وعلى الرغم من قدم الظاهرة وانتشارها، إلا أن ثمة نقصاً محسوساً فى المصنفات التاريخية الرصينة التى تعود بها إلى جذورها وبداياتها الأولى. ومن هنا كان الاهتمام بتطور الظاهرة و تحولها من السياقات المحلية أو الإقليمية المحدودة لتأخذ - ابتداءً من النصف الثانى من القرن العشرين - طابعاً عالمياً يزداد خطورة متأثرةً فى ذلك بما يتيحه عصر العولمة من فرص إنتشار و إمكانيات تواصل هائلة بين القارات.
Terrorism is an ancient phenomenon since human existence, and it is a phenomenon that preoccupies public opinion whenever the danger of extremist and armed violent groups threatening peace and stability in several regions of the world increases.
All of this necessitates awareness of the danger of terrorism as a phenomenon , realizing it in its historical context.
Despite the long age and spread of the phenomenon, there is a tangible lack of solid historical works that trace it back to its roots and its early beginnings in contemporary times. What the era of globalization offers from opportunities for spread and huge possibilities of communication between continents.
Hence the interest in the development of the phenomenon and its transformation from limited local or regional contexts to take, starting from the second half of the twentieth century, a global character that is becoming increasingly dangerous, influenced by the era of globalization that offers opportunities for spread and enormous possibilities of communication between continents.
