استهدفت الدراسة التعرف على دور البعد المادي لحاضنات الأعمال في تحقيق التنمية الاقتصادية كأحد أبعاد التنمية المستدامة بمدن صعيد مصر (محافظتي سوهاج وأسيوط) . وقد أجريت الدراسة على عينة طبقية عشوائية بلغ حجمها 382 مفردة، من مديري المشروعات المتوسطة والصغيرة ومتناهية الصغر المحتضنة من جهاز تنمية المشروعات المتوسطة والصغيرة ومتناهية الصغر، كذلك التعرف على مدى جاهزية حاضنات الأعمال تجاه المشروعات الصغيرة بما يساعد على تحقيق التنمية المستدامة في صعيد مصر.
وتوصلت الدراسة إلى مجموعة من النتائج أهمها: أن هناك علاقة طردية بين حاضنات الأعمال وتحقيق التنمية المستدامة، وكذلك يوجد أثر إيجابي لدور حاضنات الأعمال في تحقيق التنمية المستدامة في صعيد مصر.
 كما أثبتت الدراسة أن هناك مجموعة من العناصر والأبعاد اللازمة (البعد المادي) حيث تعتبر تلك العناصر هي المقومات الأساسية لتفعيل دور حاضنات الأعمال
كما قدمت الدراسة مجموعة من التوصيات من أهمها: ضرورة الاهتمام بتوفير العناصر والأبعاد اللازمة لحاضنات الأعمال (البعد المادي) حيث تعتبر تلك العناصر هي المقومات الأساسية لتفعيل دور حاضنات الأعمال في تحقيق التنمية المستدامة.
كما يجب أن تحرص حاضنات الأعمال على أن توافق السياسات والأهداف مع  إستراتيجية نمو المشروعات الصغيرة حيث ينبغي وضع نظام واضح لتطوير أهداف وسياسات وبرامج العمل يؤدي إلى توفير البنية التحتية المادية الملائمة لنمو المشروعات الصغيرة.
The study aimed to identify the role of business incubators in achieving sustainable development in the cities of Upper Egypt (Sohag and Assiut governorates). The study was conducted on a stratified random sample of (382)  individuals, from the managers of medium, small and micro enterprises incubated by the Medium, Small and Micro Enterprises Development Agency, as well as identifying the extent of readiness of business incubators towards small projects in a way that helps achieve sustainable development in Upper Egypt.
The study reached a set of results, the most important of which are: that there is a direct relationship with statistical significance between business incubators and the achievement of sustainable development, as well as there is a positive effect of statistical significance for the role of business incubators in achieving sustainable development.
The study also proved that there is a set of necessary elements and dimensions (the physical dimension), as these elements are the basic ingredients for activating the role of business incubators.
The study also presented a set of recommendations, the most important of which are: the need to pay attention to providing the necessary elements and dimensions for business incubators (the physical dimension), as these elements are the basic ingredients for activating the role of business incubators in achieving sustainable development.
Business incubators must also ensure that policies and objectives are compatible with the growth strategy of small projects, where a clear system should be put in place to develop goals, policies and work programs that lead to the provision of the appropriate physical infrastructure for the growth of small projects.
