تُعد الرقابة السياسية أحد أهم أنواع الرقابة القادرة على متابعة أعمال الجهاز الإداري للدولة لما لها من أدوات ووسائل تساعدها في هذا الشأن ويكون هدفها الرئيسي هو مساندة وتوجيه الأداء الحكومي نحو المسار الصحيح لتحقيق الهدف المطلوب وهو الإصلاح الإداري والتنمية المحلية للوصول إلى التنمية الشاملة، فالرقابة السياسية نابعة من داخل المجلس التشريعي (البرلمان) والذي يمثل الشعب بكافة طوائفه.
ويعد الأداء الحكومي أساسًا جوهريًا لتحقيق أهداف خطة الدولة للتنمية المحلية ولذا ظهرت الحاجة لتحديث وتطوير وإصلاح الجهاز الإداري بهدف تدعيم قدرته على الوفاء برسالته الأساسية لتحقيق النهضة التنموية.
